Good Sense

  • Buying one sling will last you from newborn to toddler stage, save money and waste less.
  • Baby can change positions as he/she grows. Very few products can have the same said about them.
  • Unlike other carriers (front and back type) weight is evenly distributed across the shoulder, back and hip, instead of shoulders only.
  • Rather than straps, the sling has a shoulder pillow. This is important to the nursing mom especially because straps can restrict circulation to engorged breast tissue increasing the incidence of breast infections.
  • Babies that are carried next to your body have been found to cry less, have less colic, and be more content.

Activities where the sling is invaluable

  • Going on hikes, picnics, or walking on rough ground where a stroller cannot be used.
  • Shopping expeditions with your toddler who refuses to be left in the stroller. You need your hands free but don’t want him/her rampaging through the store.
  • You are out at nap time, the car is parked some distance away and your little one insists on being carried.
  • When your child has the need for holding and comfort that only a parent can give.
  • You can conveniently and discreetly nurse your child in the sling. Examples include weddings, shopping, restaurants, concerts, fairs, and markets.
  • Carrying your baby in the sling leaves your hands free for other duties such as caring for another child.
  • A sling can be used for many other things. People have used them as a changing pad, burp cloth, and blanket and a sunshade.

A very sweet picture of our niece who fell asleep in her sling, so Mama just laid her down.

My View on Baby Wearing

Wearing your baby is one of the most important things you can do to bond with your child early on. A sling allows you to carry your child close to you, where he/she is comforted by your presence, while freeing your hands to carry on with your day. In addition, the motion of your walking and the soft sounds of your breathing and heartbeat closely recreate the environment of the womb, and make the transition to the world a little easier. Using a sling is also a great way for fathers to bond with their new baby. My children, my husband, and I have benefited greatly from using the sling (and so has my back). I hope you have the same experience.
